"Avoiding Punctuation Errors"


Course Overview: English 022.2 provides an introduction to punctuation. Understanding the proper punctuation will help you form better sentences and will improve your ability to communicate effectively. When you complete Avoiding Common Punctuation Errors you should be able to:

Use punctuation to communicate clearly to the reader.

Identify and use appropriate end marks to complete a sentence.

Identify and use appropriate punctuation marks within a sentence to let the reader know that there is a pause in the sentence or that items in a sentence are grouped together.

  • Identify and correct the most common punctuation errors.

  • Identify and use commas in a sentence.

  • Identify and use colons in a sentence.

  • Identify and use semicolons in a sentence.

  • Identify and use hyphens in a sentence.

  • Identify and use dashes in a sentence.

  • Identify and use quotation marks in a sentence.

  • Identify and use periods in a sentence.

  • Identify and use exclamation points in a sentence.

  • Identify and use question marks in a sentence.

Required Text: There is no text book for this course. All course materials are online. A short Study Guide has been developed, but it is not currently available.

Mastery Tests: These are designed to test your skills. You must score 80% or above to move on in the lessons.

Grading: English 022.2 is a Credit/No Credit course; in other words, a letter grade is not possible. Your grade, CR or NC, will be based on your successful completion of the tutorial and practice sections as well as the Lesson Mastery Tests and the Course Mastery Test with an 80% or above.
