"Parts of Speech: A Review"

Course Overview:  This course provides an introduction to parts of speech. Understanding the parts of speech will help you form better sentences and will improve your ability to communicate effectively.

When you complete Parts of Speech: A Review, you should be able to:

  • Identify and use different types of verbs in a sentence, including action verbs, linking verbs, main verbs, and helping verbs.
  • Identify and use different types of nouns in a sentence, including collective nouns, abstract nouns, and concrete nouns.
  • Identify and use different types of pronouns, including personal pronouns, possessive pronouns, and reflexive pronouns.
  • Identify and use adjectives in a sentence.
  • Identify and use adverbs in a sentence.
  • Identify and use prepositions in a sentence.
  • Identify and use different types of conjunctions in a sentence, including coordinating conjunctions and subordinating conjunctions.
  • Identify and use an article in a sentence.

Required Text: There is no text book for this course. All course materials are online. A short Study Guide has been developed, but it is not currently available.

Mastery Tests: These are designed to test your skills. You must score 80% or above to move on in the lessons.

Grading: English 022.5 is a Credit/No Credit course; in other words, a letter grade is not possible. Your grade, CR or NC, will be based on your successful completion of the tutorial and practice sections as well as the Lesson Mastery Tests and the Course Mastery Test with an 80% or above.
