Subject: Online History 175-
U.S. History Since 1876
Dear Student:
Welcome to American History ONLINE.
As your mentor for the semester, I would like to
tell you something about myself.
I received a BA from Swarthmore College and a MA from Columbia University. In addition, I have a doctorate in history from the University of Southern California. For many years I have taught American History and Political Science courses - on campus and via television - at various state and community colleges. I am also editor of the American Ethnics and Minorities (1994). Furthermore, in 1990 I received the Faculty Excellence Award (1990) by the Southern California Consortium for Community College Television. In 1997, I organized my first ONLINE history course.
This handbook will provide the academic outline of United States history from 1877 to the present.
The overall objectives of this ONLINE American history course will be
- to provide you with an understanding of contemporary American history;
- to develop a critical view of the American past; and
- to foster an awareness of the uniqueness of the American experience as seen in ideas, events,and personalities which have shaped it.
Unlike the traditional course, however, you will also have an opportunity to establish an online community of learning through a email, and Discussion Forum.
Hours: Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Phone Number: (714) 241-6120
If I am unavailable, you may leave a message on my voice mail. At the sound of the beep, leave your name and phone number. Speak slowly and clearly. Your call will be returned at my next office hours.
