INSTRUCTOR LETTER
Dear Student:
Welcome to your Internet Course,
AMERICAN CINEMA/AMERICAN CULTURE.
As your instructor, I will be assisting you throughout the course.
To acquaint you with my background, I hold a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from
the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor; and I spent a sabbatical year
in post-doctoral work in Art History at the Courtauld Institute of Art
of the University of London in England. Before moving to California, I
served as Chair of English and Modern Languages at Colorado Women's
College in Denver, and as Director of Residential Academic Programs and
Associate Professor of English at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
After several years as President of my own business, I missed the
exchange with students and accepted a composition course at Coastline
Community College in 1991. As one who has changed careers several times,
I enjoy the diversity of life paths and practical knowledge that
Coastline students bring to the classroom. This diversity and knowledge
will enhance your appreciation of the films and the history of American
culture that we will explore in this course. You may wish to read my
book, Seven Tools to Transform Genius into Practical Power, published
December, 2000. It is available at Amazon.com, Barnes&Noble.com, and
Borders.com.
I look forward to working with you in American Cinema and American
Culture. You may contact me by email or by telephone during my office
hours. I check my email each week-day and will respond within 48 hours.
If you leave a voice-mail, be sure to state the nature of your question
and the return phone number clearly. I will respond to your voice-mail
message once, so it is important to have voice mail to receive the call
if you are not at home. You may also post questions on the bulletin
board. The discussion forum is the best place to bring your generic
questions.
Sincerely,
Adrian Windsor, Ph.D.
