After reading this chapter, students should be able to:
- Describe health, quality of life, ADLs and IADLs.
- Know the social and psychological factors that affect perceptions of health and the use of health services.
- Know the distinctions among chronic diseases that occur most frequently in older adults.
- Understand the use of health services and health behaviors of older people.
- Explain health promotion and its benefits in old age.
- Understand the economic conditions faced by older women.
- Explain the health and social status of women and how these factors interact.
- Describe the program and policy options to reduce older womens vulnerability to
poverty, poor health, and social isolation.
