Learning Objectives

After reading this chapter, students should be able to:

  1. Understand the definitions, status and expenditures for acute and long-term care.
  2. Explain Medicare, its rising costs, and current efforts to reduce costs.
  3. Identify ways of improving the quality of care and discuss the growing need for long-term care.
  4. Discuss private long-term care insurance, its costs and limitations.
  5. Discuss Medicaid and the growth of community based services.
  6. Understand the new cost-attainment initiatives under Medicaid and Medicare.

Quiz 2

Quiz 2 covers Chapters 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, and the epilogue. It is worth 50 points. All quizzes are open book. It is best to click on View Quiz, print the quiz and choose the correct answers before attempting to take the quiz online. After you decide your answers, click on Take Quiz and submit your answers. You will be allowed to take the quiz only one time. Quiz results will be e-mailed to you immediately after you have submitted your quiz. If you do not get your results via e-mail, resubmit the quiz. If you have difficulties taking the quiz, call the testing office (714)241-6216.

Second Short Essay Response

Respond to at least one posted essay on Caregiver Issues. Include your opinions about what the student suggested. Your response should be posted by the end of this week. Remember to save your response to your computer before copying and pasting it to the WebBoard.

Part 2 of the Short Essay Assignment is graded as follows:

Criteria Points
Assignment posted on time. Thoughtful responses. 5-10 points
Assignment late and-or did not respond to a student statement thoughtfully. 4 points and below
