  1. Click on the WebBoard button and get yourself enrolled as a new user.

  2. Click on New User and create an account for yourself, giving yourself a logon that you should remember. A password will be e-mailed to you immediately.

  3. Once you receive the e-mail with your password go back to the WebBoard and log in.

  4. Keep your user name and password in a safe place as you will need it during the semester to access the WebBoard

If, for whatever reason, you cannot enter the WebBoard through the course link, you can use the following URL to access it from the Internet: http://webboard.ccc.cccd.edu/~sociology120.

Once you have access to the WebBoard you will see a split screen. On the right it will tell you how many messages you have. On the left you see a list of conferences. Think of these as you would a real conference. In each different "room" you address a different topic. When you click on a conference topic or the +- signs you will see the messages left on that topic. Click on individual messages to view them.

The WebBoard has tool bars or tabs. Above the split screen is a tool bar that includes:
Post  Refresh   Search   More   Help   Logoff

Post is where you go to add messages to a conference. Double click on the conference you want to open or click on the + sign in front of the topic to open it. Be sure you have opened the conference you are interested in (Welcome, Week 1, etc) add your ideas in the space provided and then you click on post. This will add your ideas and comments or post assignments to that conference. Try it now. Go to the Welcome conference, open it and post a short introduction there so we all can get to know one other. In the Title write Bio, your last name and first initial. For example Bio Waller, E. This way all the introductions will show up in the same place and with your last name so we all can easily scan them and find the information we want. Click on Post to submit a new item. Click on Reply to respond to an existing item that you have opened.

Search allows you to find items in the conferences by users, key words or most recent messages to the WebBoard.

Chat allows you to talk in real time with other members of the class. If you discover you have a placement that is like another student?s and you would like to have a discussion about it, e-mail them and set a time when you both can access the Chat room. Then you can meet and discuss what you like.

Page allows you to contact individual members of the class.

More... is just that, more options. The ones you would be the most interested in are:

Mailing Lists many of the conferences will allow you to subscribe to a mailing list and any new information regarding that topic will be e-mailed to you during the semester. In this class you will want to subscribe to all mailing lists that are allowed for the conferences.

Today's Messages lets you quickly scan the most recent additions to the conferences and the latest messages.

Conference Profiles tells you in more detail what each conference is about and any key information you need to know about that conference is included here.

Help offers details on how to use the major WebBoard functions.

Logoff closes your session on the WebBoard.

Remember it is best to save all your work to your computer and copy and paste it to the Webboard. That way if something goes wrong, you do not need to re-do your work. Also if you find your posting is in the wrong place, just open it and find the move button (upper right side). A window will open and ask which Conference you would like to move your posting to. Click that and the response will be moved to the proper place.
