After reading this chapter, students should be able to:

- Describe at least two important differences between a benign tumor and a

prostate, lung, cervix, uterus, ovary, and oral cavity.
- Identify the type of cancer that is the leading cause of cancer deaths in
America.
- Describe lifestyle factors that contribute to the development of cancers.
- Identify tests or examinations used to identify major forms of cancer.
- List the seven warning signs of cancer.
- List three cancer risk factors over which a person has no control.
- Identify measures that can reduce one's risk of cancer.
