Learning Objectives

After reading this chapter, students should be able to:

  1. Know the major social theories of aging.
  2. Describe the variety of ideas as to the optimal way for older people to relate to their environment.
  3. Describe some important factors related to aging or age-related issues that serve as a guide for further inquiry and possible intervention in the aging process.
  4. Explain the different ways to view and explain the phenomenon of aging.
